Hello Union Siblings! Welcome to your one stop shop for our AFSCME Local 328 bargaining information.
How Bargaining Works
Bargaining with OHSU is an ongoing and iterative process. Our contract is a long one and goes into detail and depth on a huge amount of issues. Because of this not every issue or article is discussed or a topic for every session, so if there is a specific contract article or discussion you are looking for make sure to check our blog posts and updates for when it was discussed, or keep an eye out on them for future discussions.
In broad strokes, a bargaining day will consist of both caucuses as well as discussion sessions with OHSU. During these sessions with OHSU a few things can happen but they generally fall into the categories of; passing a proposal or counter proposal across to the other side of the table, discussing and asking questions about proposals, or giving approval to a previously passed proposal which is considered passing a tentative agreement. Just because our union or OHSU sends a proposal does not mean that there is a guarantee that it will become contract language, until it becomes a passed tentative agreement there is room to adjust and send counter proposals.
Tentative agreements are done by articles of the contract, allowing our team and OHSU the ability to agree on portions of the contract as bargaining continues forward and giving both sides space to focus on specific areas before moving on to other areas of the contract.
Bargaining Timeline
AFSCME Local 328 and OHSU have started bargaining for the 2025 contract on January 7th. Bargaining days typically take place on Tuesdays at the SEIU building on Oregon street with either one or two sessions of passing proposals and discussion with OHSU taking place over the course of the day. New proposals can be passed between us up until April 22nd, and our current contract runs until July 1st, 2025.
Bargaining Updates
There are Three primary ways to keep up with bargaining updates and our current status; Through our blog updates, through live bargaining sessions, and by talking to your local unit steward.
Our blog updates come out either on the evening of bargaining or the day after so make sure to check back in on either Tuesday evenings or Wednesday mornings for an update from the days bargaining session. Links to the blog posts can be found below in the links section of this page.
Unit stewards are given information in a recorded meeting every Wednesday morning and they should always be up to date with the latest.
Something we are very excited about; As part of our ground rules we will be streaming our OHSU bargaining sessions live on our Youtube channel and all sessions will be recorded as unlisted videos. Links to the videos can be found in the links section of this page as well.
