President - Jennie Olson
Email: president@local328.org
OHSU Position: Grants & Contracts Administrator, Office of Proposal & Award Management
Other Local 328 or Council 75 Positions: 2022 bargaining team, lead steward, investigatory steward.
Why Did You Get Involved in Our Union? I became active in our union when I received an email alerting my unit that we didn’t have a unit steward. I really didn’t know much about our union and wanted to learn more, so I signed up. I quickly realized there were a lot of issues that affected my colleagues that were not often spoken about, and I wanted to help them resolve those issues. If it hadn’t been for Local 328’s unit-steward program, I probably wouldn’t have become a member leader.
Hobbies/Interests: I am a proud pet parent to a tiny three-pound Chihuahua and three rabbits. I am an avid crewelwork and goldwork embroiderer, and during the pandemic I have taken up needlepoint and am learning to sew.

Why Did You Get Involved in Our Union? I first got active with our union when I realized my work group had very little representation and were being taken advantage of by management. No one was stepping up to the plate, so I decided I would try to help.

OHSU Position: Financial Coordinator, Adult & Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant
Other Local 328 or Council 75 Positions: Local 328: 2022 and 2019 bargaining teams, lead steward; Local 328 representative on OHSU committees: Covington oversight committee, diversity advisory committee, employee advisory council; Council 75: special-sector vice president, policy committee, building committee.
Why Did You Get Involved in Our Union? I started off as a unit steward around 2016. I had been at OHSU for 15 years and it was just starting to sink in how important the union was. I felt like being a unit steward was a good starting point in terms of familiarizing myself with how the union worked.
Hobbies/Interests: I love to spend time with family and friends, read, watch movies, be near the water, enjoy nature and watch sunsets. I am a citizen member for the City of Portland's Bureau of Transportation “Fixing Our Streets” oversight committee and a board member for Oregon Walks, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of walking and making conditions for walking safe, convenient and attractive in Oregon. I do volunteer HR work for LifelineTNT Global Ministries. And I am taking advantage of AFSCME's free bachelor’s degree program.

Why Did You Get Involved in Our Union? Ever since I had my first job, hauling shopping carts at Fred Meyer, I’ve been a union advocate. Once I got my job at OHSU I jumped feet first into getting involved where and when I can.
Hobbies/Interests: When I’m not on campus, you can often find me at another union’s picket line around town, or in meetings with labor groups such as DSA and Jobs with Justice. In my free time I love to explore new restaurants, browse comic-book stores to add to my collection, catch a film at the Hollywood Theatre or unwind by building a Lego set or playing some video games.

OHSU Position: PAS Specialist-R, Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology
Other Local 328 or Council 75 Positions:
Why Did You Get Involved in Our Union? I have worked at OHSU for 15 years, starting in Food and Nutrition, then as a HUC in Family Medicine and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Doernbecher. I now work as a PAS Resource for Pediatric Gastroenterology. I can tell you my start in food and nutrition was very tumultuous, to say the least. One of the many reasons I decided to join the board was to help improve all our employees' working lives here at OHSU!

Why Did You Get Involved in Our Union? I am newer to the Union, starting back in August of 2022. I became involved more after finding out that the March Wellness Contract was outdated. I am currently working with the Union to bargain a new contract for March Wellness and help my fellow trainers get better pay.

OHSU Position: Senior Facilities Technician, Research and Academic Zone Maintenance, Central Services
Other Local 328 or Council 75 Positions: On the Board I am the Building Chair, who is responsible for resolution of routine issues with the Barbur Blvd Office, and AFSCME’s designated representative on the OHSU OSHA Safety Committee. Currently I also participate on the Internal Communications Committee. I also am a Investigatory Steward and volunteer for other short duration jobs, such as organizing the Local 328 table at the Farmer’s Market.
Why Did You Get Involved in Our Union? Four and a half years ago, during the most (at the time) contentious bargaining since the Banking Crisis, being fed up with OHSU management in almost every possible way, I decided to see how I could be of service to my classified brothers and sisters. I started by volunteering for Unit Steward Training.
Hobbies/Interests: I write Hardboiled, Fantasy, and Science Fiction Short Stories under the byline Agathon McGeachy. Look for anthologies that include my stories on Amazon. I sell ceramic figure sculptures at Science Fiction and Fantasy Conventions around the Pacific Northwest. One of my sculptures won Best Sculpture in Show at the 2016 World Science Fiction Convention in Spokane. Search for AgathonMcgeachy on Deviant Art to see that and other examples of my work.
At-Large Position 15 - Karri Garaventa (she/her)
Email: atlarge15@local328.org
OHSU Position: Administrative Coordinator, Hematology/Medical Oncology
Other Local 328 or Council 75 Positions: Unit steward, investigatory steward.
Why Did You Get Involved in Our Union? Early on in my employment, I felt lost in such a large workplace. It was suggested that I visit the green union table in the cafeteria, and I did so regularly to get advice on how to succeed at OHSU. Tips from our reps and members worked, and I quickly felt like a valued part of our union. After a department switch, I became a unit steward to help others by answering the same types of questions and to help spread that feeling of value.
At-Large Position 16 - Katy Holmes

OHSU Position: Pharmacy Technician 3, Ambulatory Pharmacy/Community Hematology Oncology (Knight Cancer Institute)
Other Local 328 or Council 75 Positions: 2022 bargaining team, unit steward.
Why Did You Get Involved in Our Union? I wanted to make a difference in my workplace and share those benefits with my team. I love what I do, making sure every employee has the opportunity to thrive and grow while working at OHSU. Being an active member in our union gives you a voice and lets you hear others' voices so that change can be made in the best possible ways.
Hobbies/Interests: When I'm not working on some DIY or upcycle project, you can almost guarantee I'm working on a knitting or crochet project. During non-pandemic times, I volunteer with Donate Life NW as a living-donor advocate for organ donation and as a mentor in their Erase the Wait program.
Other Local 328 or Council 75 Positions: Unit steward.
Why Did You Get Involved in Our Union? I decided to become active in the union to increase my department's representation and be a voice for our group’s needs within the union.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion - CG Brothers (they/them)
Email: diversity@local328.org
OHSU Position: Administrative Coordinator, DMICE/OCTRI
Other Local 328 or Council 75 Positions: Representational Steward, Unit Steward
Why Did You Get Involved in Our Union? I’ve been a member since NEO years ago, but I never really considered doing more. After our union supported me in more ways than one throughout the pandemic, I decided I could give back and help others. First I became a unit steward, then Staff and the Board convinced me to become a representational steward, and now I’m on the Board, too, hoping I can provide support to those in need.
Hobbies/Interests: I’ve been trying to start up a regular D&D since COVID threw a wrench in the others. Beyond that I’m usually working on a cross-stitch project, reading comics, or planning the next tattoo I can’t afford. Beyond supporting the union I’m also the representative for the Abilities Resource Group on the Covington Committee, I’m a trauma informed care trainer, a member of the OHEP Diversity Committee, and advocating for trans rights here at OHSU and in our broader community as well.
IT Chair - Evan Bowman

OHSU Position: Project Coordinator, ITG
Other Local 328 or Council 75 Positions: OHSU/AFSCME Labor Management Committee
Why Did You Get Involved in Our Union? I I have been a quiet supporter my entire 21 years at OHSU. Being a union member receiving fair wages and job security, during difficult times, has been very good for me and my family. During COVID I felt a calling to do more for my fellow workers.
Hobbies/Interests: I have four teenage children, so most of my time is spent cooking and cleaning. I also enjoy video games, hiking, beer and politics, in that order and sequence. My partner is a tenant organizer and I support the Woodspring Tenants Association and some other tenant-led organizations, and I am a member of Portland Tenants United.
