Vigil for OHSU Hillsboro Workers Oct. 27
Throughout the pandemic, the workers at OHSU Hillsboro — members of our AFSCME family — have made a heroic effort to keep the hospital open, risking their own health and the health of their families for the sake of the patients, in spite of the ungenerous compensation offered by the employer. People can only be expected to do so much for so little for so long, however, so it should come as no surprise that the hospital is in a staffing crisis.
These Hillsboro workers and their supporters will be gathering in front of the hospital for a candlelight vigil to speak out for a fair retention bonus — one that will meaningfully address the staffing crisis that has made it more and more difficult for them to do their life-saving work each day. They will read the long list of names of former coworkers who have left OHSU Hillsboro in the last year, and demand fairness for those still working, whose efforts have helped keep the doors open at during an unprecedented global health crisis.
The vigil will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m., at 335 SE 8th Ave, Hillsboro.
These workers are also bargaining their first contract with OHSU, and would appreciate a strong show of support. We hope you’ll join us at the vigil!
