The Chinetta Montgomery Memorial Scholarship

We’re excited to announce the launch of the Chinetta Montgomery Memorial Scholarship. Local 328 wanted to find a way to honor one of our local’s former incredible leaders, Chinetta Montgomery. Chinetta was a proud union activist and devoted to raising up those around her. The scholarship is designed for Black, Indigenous, and other members of color who identify as female or nonbinary and will send them to labor conferences that will develop their knowledge, skills, and confidence to become leaders in local 328.

For more information on the Chinetta, the scholarship and the opportunities, please see the attached flyer.

Because we’re halfway through 2023, the only opportunity for this year is the winter Collective Bargaining Institute with the Labor Education Research Center. But due to the full amount of funding it might be possible to send more than one recipient. In 2024 the scholarship will start again with the full slate of opportunities.

For anyone interested in applying use this link here. The application will be open through August 1 st , coinciding with the AFSCME Local 328 board election. Recipients will be notified during August. The scholarship will be opened again after the swearing in of the next DEI Chair.

If you have questions about the scholarship application or have problems applying email diveristy@local328.org.
