“OHSU, I’m Tired”
— guest post by an anonymous Local 328 member —
OHSU, if you’re reading this, I’m tired.
I’m tired of you trumpeting on billboards about how valuable essential workers are, while refusing to invest in workers’ pay, time off and well-being.
I'm tired of you bragging in press releases about your diverse workforce, yet sustaining internal systems that increase inequity.
I’m tired you of treating Local 328 members like we’re just dollar amounts on spreadsheets, resources to be allocated or children to be patronized.
I’m tired of you intentionally understaffing departments to save money, while claiming to be concerned and compassionate about employee burnout.
I’m tired of seeing talented people start jobs at OHSU full of joy, but leave jobs at OHSU feeling broken.
I’m tired of you rolling out “values” campaigns that feel like hollow acts of branding, rendering words like “transparency” meaningless.
You’ve lost so many employees’ trust. You've lost my trust. I don’t believe your sunny OHSU Now posts. I don’t believe your ghost-written newsletters from executives. I don’t believe most of what you tell me these days.
And yet, I am so proud of the Local 328 members who work at OHSU, and all the ways we demonstrate strength, creativity, compassion and grace under pressure.
OHSU, please do the right thing and give us a good contract. Earn our trust again through action, not words.
