July 27 Picket Details

Ed. Note: We’re taking the steps below to help ensure folks stay safe in the heat at this event, and we may do a standing picket instead of a walking one. If you have medical or other issues that would be exacerbated by the heat, however, please don’t feel obligated to attend.

Have you RSVPed to our bargaining support picket yet? If not, you can do so here.

The purpose of this picket is to build leverage as our bargaining team participates in a two-day marathon mediation session on the hill. Our union is fighting for substantial investments from OHSU in order to retain and reward loyal employees, reduce chronic under-staffing, improve employee work-life balance and address concerns around systemic harassment and discrimination. A strong turnout at this picket will signal to OHSU that our members are willing to stand up for a good contract!

When: Wednesday, July 27, 4 - 5 p.m. The picket will start at 4 p.m. and conclude with an update from the bargaining team.

Where: OHSU South Waterfront Campus. We’ll gather near the base of the tram and then picket along Moody Ave. in front of CHH 1 and CHH 2. (See the below map for details.)

What: We’ll have a sign-making station (or you can bring your own picket signs). We’ll also have a limited supply of swag and T-shirts. Kona Ice will be there with their shave-ice truck.

Heat Considerations: As you may be aware, the temperature is expected to reach 100 degrees on Wednesday. In order to keep folks as safe and comfortable as possible, we’ll have tents for shade and coolers with ice and bottled water, as well as neck-cooling towels. Because the picket will only last an hour, we plan to proceed for now. We’re going to be watching the forecast closely — if the expected high increases, we’ll make a final decision 24 hours in advance. If we end up needing to cancel the picket, we’ll send out a text alert and will also post updates here on the blog and on our social-media pages.
