In January 2021, AFSCME members were given a survey asking about their medical and social needs. Using the answers to that survey, researchers from OHSU’s Department of Family Medicine are working with employee resource groups and Local 328 to design a pilot program in which a group of employees represented by our union will have free and confidential access to community health workers. CHWs are trusted, trained community members who can help employees and their families take care of their health and social needs.

We are holding a series of focus groups where AFSCME-represented employees will help decide how the pilot program should work and how to prove it is successful. The opinions shared in the focus groups will be anonymous. Employees will be allowed to participate in the focus groups during their shifts without losing pay and will receive $45 for participating.

If you would like to learn more about this research project and possibly be in a focus group, please complete the survey at the link below. (Sharing your information does not mean you agree to participate in a focus group.)

The survey will close at the end of February.

We are recommending that employees whose primary language is not English consider using a paper survey. If you know coworkers who speak Amharic, Bosnian, Burmese, Oromo, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Tigrinya, Ukrainian or Vietnamese, please let them know that paper surveys will be available in the swing-shift clock-in rooms (CSB 254 and RJH 1313), EVS break room (UHS 230B), FNS break room (UHS 3rd floor) and FNS South Waterfront break room.

Thank you!
