Committee Spotlight: OHSU OSHA Safety Committee

Are you concerned about safety at OHSU? Join the OHSU OSHA safety committee! We are looking for Local 328 members who are passionate about making OHSU a safer place to work.

Committee responsibilities include a monthly meeting, workplace inspections, reviews of workplace accident reports and accident investigations — OSHA provides training for these tasks. The time commitment is three to four hours per month, and all committee-related work is done on the clock at OHSU's expense.

Our union is guaranteed up to 40% of the seats on the safety committee and we are nowhere near that level of participation at this point. The scope of the safety committee’s work is expanding in ways never seen before at OHSU, so this is the perfect time to get involved.

This month, the safety committee will be electing officers for the first time. Nominations for chair (required to be an AFSCME member), vice chair and secretary are being accepted until Thursday, Feb. 10. Please email Mark Chapman soon to join the committee and/or to nominate yourself or a coworker for one of the officer positions.
