Celebrate Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May
Please join the OHSU Asian Pacific Islander ERG in the monthlong celebration of API Heritage Month in May! All events are open to people of all identities, and the majority of events are held on Webex or a similar platform. Please click the links below to view flyers with details on the event.
May 1 - May 24, Recipe Submissions: Please submit your API-inspired recipes for the OHSU API ERG community cookbook! Submissions will be accepted through May 24. You can submit your recipes (photos of finished product encouraged) to api@ohsu.edu or on the API ERG Microsoft Team’s culinary channel. We will share the finished cookbook at the Take Out with Lisa Ling event (see below) and add it to Teams.
May 5 – June 1, Children’s Day Donation Drive: Celebrate children throughout the month of May by donating toys and books that recognize and reflect API patients and families at OHSU. (OHSU API ERG and Doernbecher Children's Hospital Child Life)
May 20, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m., Persuasive Communication: How to Ask for What You Need at Work: In this workshop with Kristen Wong, participants will learn some techniques to be more successful at persuasive communication within the context of cross-cultural relationships in the workplace.
May 25, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., Take Out with Lisa Ling Virtual Screening: Join a watch party of Lisa Ling’s episode on Bangladeshi food and review the second volume of the OHSU API ERG’s community cookbook.
May 26, 12 - 1 p.m., Chado: Japanese Tea Ceremony: Margie Yap, a credentialed Japanese tea ceremony instructor will give a virtual demonstration of the Japanese art and practice of chado.
May 31, 12 - 1 p.m., Enchanting Demonstration of the Chinese Dulcimer: Listen to a musical performance by Jing Lu, an award-winning yangqin (Chinese dulcimer) performer, and learn about the instrument’s background. (OHSU API ERG and Portland-Suzhou Sister City Association)
