Car Thefts and Vandalism Update

Last month, our union reported on a rash of car thefts and vandalism at OHSU. Local 328 leadership held a follow-up meeting with OHSU Public Safety and HR leadership last week. At this meeting, OHSU agreed to implement the following steps to curb the catalytic-converter thefts and general vandalism that has been occurring at several OHSU locations:

  • OHSU will release communications to employees about what has been happening and provide any available stats (number of reports, actions taken, etc.)

  • Public Safety will increase patrols in parking areas and increase their presence in general (this has already started)

  • Conversations will be had with Transportation and Parking on how to implement better safety features —camera upgrades and additions are first on the list, with more to come (this is underway)

In the meantime, if you have experienced car theft or vandalism, please report it to Public Safety at (503) 494-7744. If you see an active crime in progress, do not engage — call Public Safety’s emergency line at (503) 494-4444 immediately. Stay safe!
